Last week at 7 weeks 1 day I had my first ultrasound. Baby's heart rate was 142 and he/she was measuring 2 days ahead. Today I had another ultrasound at 8 weeks 3 days, and baby's heart rate was 168. He/she was measuring one day BEHIND. I'm just worried that baby went from measuring two days ahead to one day behind. The ultrasound tech said she didn't think it was anything to worry about, but of course I'm questioning it. Thoughts??? This is all so nerve wracking for me!

I wouldn't worry. The measurements are not an exact science and can vary. I don't put too much faith in u/s measurements.

The baby is so tiny and I sure it's hard (in general) to get precise measurements that are consistent from visit to visit. There are so many factors -- who the tech is, how the baby is positioned that day, etc.

I had two ultrasounds that were exactly two weeks apart (due to a bleeding scare...) and the measurements were a SIX DAY DIFFERENCE! Granted it was in the opposite direction (3 days behind first u/s; 3 days ahead second u/s), so I wasn't really worried, but it did teach me that these things will probably not stay consistent throughout each visit.

They vary and my understanding is the earlier the u/s the more accurate. It is frustrating to "trust" the later ones, especially on weight. "Your baby is about 7.5 lbs" the day before your 10 lb baby is born!!!! Don't fret. Im glad you got to see your baby!
