Just for anyone who don't know this and are putting a breast pump on registry or purchasing it themselves, a lot of insurances cover breast pumps. Just have to call and ask :-) The doc told me this yesterday and I called the insurance today and it is fully covered :-)

I plan to call our insurance... I just want to be able to get a really nice double electric because that's what I'll have to have.... I'm not sure how much our plan will limit what we could get if they covered it. Our insurance sucks.

And make sure you call this time around. The American Affordable Care Act (aka Obamacare) requires that insurance companies offer way more services than before....including prenatal vitamins/folic acid, breast pumps....How the Affordable Care Act (ACA) affects pregnant women and families | BabyCenter

Make sure you inquire about how they will reimburse/pay. My insurance company will pay directly only if purchased through their approved durable medical suppliers.

I got a list of approved medical suppliers from my insurance co. I tried to order my pump already but they want you to be 30 days of your due date.

It looked like my options were primary Medela or Ameda with a few other choices sprinkled in. I'll go with Medela since that's what I used with DD and I have a lot of extra pieces... plus, replacement parts are so much easier to get your hands on. Medela stuff is everywhere (Target, BRU, Amazon).

Some of the suppliers also offered upgrade options so that you could get the carrying case, cooler, etc at your own cost. Seems like what they provide for free is just the very basic pump itself.

I did that and my insurance said it is full covered as well as long as I get a prescription from the doctor (which I'm sure won't be an issue) But then what do you do? Buy it from a website and have them bill your insurance?

Our insurance doesn't cover it (actually our insurance plan is going to be forced to end at the end of the year, but at least we have it for now). Not a big deal though, since I found a Medela Pump in Style Advanced on CL for $75, and she threw in some baby extras too. One of my friends also has some Pumpinpals accessories and freezer bags she never used that she wants to pass along.

My insurance, Tricare, is one of the few exempt from this. There is a movement to get them covered for the next fiscal year, but that would come too late for me to us. I lucked out last week and found a $300 pump on clearance at Target, ended up getting it for about $85!

I saw and had to comment, I'm over from DDC October, but I'm not sure in every state however WIC does pump too. You have to get on a waiting list.

I asked about what they provide without medical necessity and they said it is a manual pump, idk about others but i cant do a manual pump. i need something to help me, so electric is best.
