Do you plan to use one? Video or audio only?

We still use our video monitor with DD. When she was a baby, I could stare at the it to see her breathe if I needed some reassurance. I didn't obsess over it though... I was afraid I might.

Now that she's bigger it's off 99% of the time, but I like that I can peek when I want to to see if she's awake, fallen asleep yet, etc. It's also helpful when she decides to do things like undress herself and we need to go back in to put her back together. And we also like to hang out in the backyard after she's asleep so it comes in handy then too since we wouldn't be able to hear her otherwise.

Our current monitor is pretty crappy now so I'd love to get a new one with dual cameras so I can still see DD if I want to. Some are so fancy! They can pan the room, zoom in and out, play music, get room temperature readings and have 2-way talking. Would that creep out a kid if you started talking to them through the monitor? "Cut it out --- I'M WATCHING YOU ---"

With DD we just had a cheap audio one. We didn't need it at night because we lived in an older house and you could hear through the rooms with no problem. I definitely used it during the day while she was napping upstairs though.

This time we're going to get a video one. DH would run in the second he heard any kind of noise even though I told him I thought she was making noise in her sleep half of the time. I think he'll have an easier time waiting a few minutes (after the first couple of months) to run in.

I have mobile monitors, lol. Seriously though, I haven't used one since...hmmm...ds1 (I think)? I do think the new video ones are pretty cool though and I would definitely set up cameras if we used babysitters. I just haven't really had a need for them. Generally, my newborn will nap wherever I happen to be spending my time at that time. As they get older, I feel a bit more comfortable with leaving them, say, in their crib on the second floor while I'm downstairs in the kitchen.

We have an Angelcare monitor on our registry, but that is more a SIDS/breathing monitor than one we actively watch. Since we still haven't found a house, Baby Girl will be in the room with us, so I don't think a monitor would be as useful.

I love love love video monitors. Not so much for when they are itty bitty but once they start moving around. Always nice to know what those thumps and bumps are and then once they are out of the crib to check and see if they are really in bed or not.

I'm got a new one this time as our current one is on it's last leg. I went with the Levana Ovia this time.

I tend to not set baby down for weeks haha. But we live in such a small house we are bound to hear the slightest sound when she is napping. And I cosleep at night so no need for one then. Sorry I am not much help!

I had one with my first and I was never far enough away from him to actually need one. We have been considering buying a new house that is quite spread out so I am thinking about getting a sound only one. Still it wouldn't hardly get used.

i have an audio-only monitor. the video ones kinda creep me out!

we didnt use it at all until we moved out here and harvey was in his own room (at eight months or so). we pretty much only use it at night now, since he still naps wherever i am in the house. hes a tiny little night owl, and goes to bed when we do, so we're very rarely not upstairs when he is.

and honestly, his nursery is just across the hall from our room, so we could hear him plain as day without it. it comes in most handy when we have houseguests and we close our bedroom door. shrug!
