So because of gestational diabetes, all large babies, this baby measuring big and previous shoulder dystocia, my OB and I agreed on inducing at 38 weeks. That was Saturday the 5th.
I went in at 8am to the hospital, had a nst done, then prostaglandin gel. More nst monitoring and we left at 10:15am. Told to return at 6pm or earlier if things really got started. We went home and nothing started until about 2pm after walking on my treadmill for 2 kms. I slept from 3-4:30. Ate and headed to the hospital. Mild contractions, OB checked 2cm dilated but very high cervix. Let's start oxytocin. Almost 8 before that gets done. Contractions started picking up, I really was undecided when to get an epidural, since last time is just quit 1 1/2 hrs before delivery. I finally asked for one at 10pm, at 10:50pm it was finally done. I dozed off. At 1am OB checked me, same, no change, *** that's not normal for me.
At 3-ish am the nurse taking over for mine while she went on lunch, switched my position and the baby's heartbeat went from 150's to 90's. Called the OB, turned off oxy. My "labour" stopped. Great. At 4:15 the OB checked me, high but softer cervix 3 cms., I cried. She gave me the choice of just going home or breaking my water. We broke my water at 4:30. I went back to sleep and woke up at 5:50 in pain! Nurse called anesthesiologist, 6:15 he topped up my epi. But it didn't do anything. They hadn't checked me as I was barely progressing. So top up didn't help, at 6:30 OB thought she better check, fully dilated! I started pushing at 6:37, she was born at 6:54am! 7lbs 12oz my smallest baby! We voted on her name and she's Emme Sophia Galina (mil) my chart says active labour 6am- 6:54am!
