Here's my homemade sauce recipe (I do it in a crock pot and let it cook all day, but it can be done on the stove and is ready as soon as it's heated through).
1.5-2 lbs Lean Ground Beef (or ground venison)
1 small onion, diced
1 Bell Pepper, diced
2 cloves Garlic, minced
1 can (little one) sliced Mushrooms (or fresh)
1 can Diced Tomatoes
2 cans (15 oz) Tomato Sauce
2 Bay Leaves
Italian Seasoning, salt & pepper to taste.
1. Brown ground beef and drain. Put in crock pot.
2. Saute onion, pepper & mushrooms until onions start to turn clear. Add garlic and saute just a minute or so longer. Add mixture to crock pot.
3. Add diced tomatoes and tomato sauce to crock pot.
4. Add spices to everything else (I never add salt), stir well and let cook until heated through 4-6 hours on low.
Enjoy with pasta of your choice.
I have even used this sauce on spaghetti pasta...it was nummy.
