I ordered the gender test. I am requesting they set up the draw at a lab in a nearby town. One my docs office doesn't use. I could have had it drawn by a phlebotomist at work, or another nurse but I would have to also have access to a centrifuge and I don't know if the phlebs would have access and I don't want them to get in trouble by drawing it, spinning it, and then giving it back. I might just ask a phleb about it this weekend but its usually the medical lab techs that do the lab work like that.
Anyway, I don't want my docs office to know I ordered it, so hopefully I don't have to list a PCP. I worked with a nurse once who ordered her own lab and she got fired for 'practicing medicine' out of her scope. The situation was different and I think she had the lab slip and just added the lab on, but it still makes me nervous. When I emailed them, they said I didn't need a doctor's order, so...
Hopefully I will get it drawn sometime next week and then will get the results emailed to me a week later.
I know! To be fair though, I'll likely be 14 weeks when I find out, lol. My work schedule is a hot mess again next week so I'm not sure when I'll have time to go in for the draw... I'll have to pick the kit up from FedEx as I didn't want them to try to drop it off when I was gone or sleeping and have me miss it. I'm hoping to be able to get drawn tuesday or wed though. If not then I'll have to wait until Friday afternoon. Hope the lab lets me do a walk in instead of an appointment...
Well, I might have my blood drawn tomorrow morning! I emailed the company and am double checking that my doctor wont know anything about the draw, the lab wont get result and therefore the doctor wont get the results. I'm very nervous about my professional license should one of the OBs get a bug up her butt. So far it sounds like they wouldn't get any results or anything and if the lab asks I just tell them that I'm participating in a prenatal genetic testing study (that is if I don't want to tell them the truth and want it to remain confidential since I also likely work with all these lab techs.)
