A great end to a worrisome week. My blood work came back normal. I'm so relieved, especially about the A1C. Given my personal history of GD and familial history of type II I was a little worried.

I have, however gotten two different stories from two different nurses at the doctor's office. The first told me they would test me at 24-26 weeks for GD, and the second told me 16 weeks.

I go back to see the OB again on 4/28, so I'm going to ask then. I would honestly rather wait until closer to 20 weeks (compromise) for the test. Of course this is providing that everything else is looking good, bp, fundal height etc. I would rather not have to start pricking myself at five months in.....Of course I'm a pessimist and assume the worst. But good news, so I'm going to enjoy it.

Yay for good blood work!!!!

Check with your OB about the early testing for GD. Since I had it with my first my old OB tested me earlier with my other children. It suck to have to diet and check your blood sugars earlier but it is much better for you and baby in the long run. (btw...they only tested me a month earlier so that would have been around 18-20w)

Yeah, I personally would be a lot more comfy at 20 weeks vs. 16....Maybe it's more of a mental thing than anything else. I do remember that when they put me on the GD diet I was starving and completely bored with what I was allowed to eat. That said, I was well controlled, but it was a super pain. My daughter was a larger baby at 8 pounds 11 ounces, but not huge. Here's to hoping integrating some light cardio in my routine will help me keep things in check.

It is soooooo hard not to be able to eat what you crave when you are pregnant. My husband likes to tell the story of the time I was a week away from having our first and lost it in IHOP and ugly cried b/c I wanted waffles and couldn't have them Well if you end up with it again we can be food buddies b/c it is pretty much a promise I will have it for the 4th time But my old OB was a type 1 diabetic and he taught me all the tricks like watermelon doesn't boost your sugar levels as much a other fruits so you can eat more of it and 7-11 had crystal light slurpees!

When do they normally test? 24-27w right?

Yeah, I think it's somewhere around 24-27 weeks or so. I remember the last few weeks of my first pregnancy. I was overdue, and the one day, just ordered a double cheeseburger and fries. I figured, she was due to come out any day, and I was in bad need of a cheat meal. Now, I can't stand McD's. LOLI remember that meat was always ok. I embellished on large pieces of steak, and my post meal sugars were always around 70.

Bhahahaha! 70! That is awesome. I always went overboard post GD too. Thank goodness for breastfeeding to take care of all those extra calories for me
