Hello everyone I'm hoping you guys can give me some advice my first appointment I was very unhappy with my doctor he did A pap and he did a ultrasound the ultrasound he was in and out in 40 seconds and I really could not see anything and when I told him that we had a family history of miscarriages and a certain thing that caused it for my sister he told me that I have to go to a high-risk doctor and that they would do the testing and I'm fine with that my questions for you Wednesday I go to the specialist I'm told that when I go there I will be too basic questions another ultrasound and have the option for testing I plan on only asking to test for the genetic problems that my sister had which is low progesterone and something else that I think mtrfkr something close to that lol when they do the ultrasound and my able to be firm with them and saying no I want to see this no I want to see that or what should I ask for I will be seven weeks at this time and I would assume they could see a heartbeat and a baby while I do know it is very early I'm hoping somebody that has been through this before can help me out I don't want to be too pushy but I want to know what I'm looking and I want the doctor to spend time with me to actually help me see things so if you have advice on what to ask and how it's asked them so that I can understand the ultrasound and understand what I need to know anything would be very helpful thank you

Don't stress so much:-)

You have to advocate for yourself. Tell him you want to see the ultrasound. My doctor's office was very patient with us. If not, go somewhere else.

Thank you Kiliki for my awesome siggy!

I was diagnosed with MTHFR A1298C after several mc. Most doctors usually wont do testing until at least 2 m/c. I took baby aspirin, had a successful pregnancy and am currently taking it with this pregnancy.

Do you have a history of m/c? A specialist should spend a lot more time with you than an OB but you still need to ask as many questions as you feel you need. Remember they work for you! At seven weeks they should be able to give you a pretty good idea of what is going on with your pregnancy up until this point.

Wishing you luck at your next appt.

In my experience the high risk doctors were a lot more complete and the exams lasted a lot longer! Mine was always great to tell me what they were looking at and gave me plenty of pictures and such. If you really want to see the heartbeat, then I'd say something casual as they are getting you ready for it "can you point out the heartbeat to me? I'd really love to see it!" or "I'd love it if you could explain what we're looking at while you're looking! I'm new at this!"

Good luck mama!
