Im wondering if Im eating too much fish for the week. I ate half a lox bagel yesterday as I was craving it so bad but then felt guilty so I only ate half of it. Today Im eating a salad with some tuna in it. Thanksgiving is Thursday and we are going to my moms so we will be doing seafood (my mom and I are Chinese so she doesnt do traditional Thanksgiving food) I imagine it will be lobster, salmon probably lox, scallops, and maybe some light white fish. Is this too much? Should I refrain from eating much at Thanksgiving? I know everything in moderation and I tend to follow that but with my son I use to eat like one thing of fish per week and I feel like this week Im going a tad overboard.

I would be careful now and follow the no shellfish rule and limit seafood...especially after the BP oil spill contaminated the water so much. Their are good reasons for the no shellfish rule...no lobster crab etc...those can be high in mercury too.

I'd be concerned about the lox the same way as lunch meat because it's not heated, it's prepackaged. My doc said to try to stay away from all prepackaged quick refrigerated foods.

Regular salmon I'd have no issue having because it is not considered to be high mercury and you are allowed 12 ounce of fish per week. My doc's rule for tuna is 6 ounce a week is fine and try to use chunk light if possible cause it has less mercury.

All that being said - I don't think you will be in trouble this week because what really constitutes a week? Do you count your weeks wednesday to wednesday, sunday to sunday. LOL So as long as it is not a regular thing you should be completely fine.

I'd stay away from the lobster though to be honest just cause of the mercury levels. Same with mahi mahi and swordfish. Those were bolded on my sheet as not to eat at all.

Hope this helps!

If you avoid fish with large amounts of mercury (shark, mahi, kingfish, and most tuna) you should be fine. I think the shellfish rule is mostly about undercooked shellfish like oysters. If the lobster is full cooked, I wouldn't worry. I would probably avoid the lox if you can because of the risk of listeria. Of course, I was also eating cold salami and European cheese that I'm sure wasn't pasterized when I knew I was pregnant so maybe I'm not the best person to ask. I tend to be pretty lacksidaisical about the food rules

I was just about to post the same link as Amy! I live by that link! lol I agree with the others, avoid the high mercury fish and you should be fine. Since you're eating so much fish this week, maybe just skip it the following week. I'm also a seafood lover, including lox! I know we're having a salmon dip for appetizer/lunch on Thursday, so I've been trying to avoid it the rest of the week!
