I did it last time and plan on doing it again this time around. For anyone wanting to speed their recovery time, mitigate the effects of sleep deprivation, and take the edge off the "baby blues", placenta encapsulation is definitely worth looking into. Yes, it's kind of a disgusting concept, but when it's dried, powdered, and encapsulated it's not that bad- you don't taste anything when you take it. And it's safe to consume when prepared properly.
It sounds pretty cool... but I am pretty sure after a c-section they whisk away my placenta into whatever dirty place they throw leftover organs... *shudder*. I don't think I have the option of keeping it.

I wanted to do it last time. But it was too much trouble and no one locally available to hire to do it for me. I just had a lot of help and ate a lot of steak and had a great recovery... I don't feel like I need it this time. I think the main thing it has is great vitamins and iron, but you can get those from diet too. I have a hard time believing the hormones and so forth are not totally denatured by the encapsulation process. However (and I swear I m not being facetious or sarcastic) the placebo effect is a powerful thing and I think many of the amazing benefits of placenta ingestion are due to the mind.
The hospital I gave birth in needed to keep my placenta for a week before they let me finally take it home- I forget the reason why they needed it but they did keep it in a freezer. I can say that going without it for that week made the effects of the placenta pills very noticeable to me- I felt instantly revived after the first full day of taking them. I basically went from being a sad zombie to a fully functioning, happy human in a span of 24 hours. Placebo or not, I want to be able to have that feeling again!
