Does someone gain almost 3 pounds in a week??? I swear, I have no changed my eating habits much at all. I did add some extra protein by orders of my midwife, but if anything, that has made me eat healthier, less processed carbs. And I have been eating things like non-fat greek yogurt, almonds, seafood, and white meat chicken, so nothing really fatty. M weight gain up to this point had been pretty modest. I had gained less than two pounds total up until last week and I get on the scale today and I'm up almost 3 pounds. I thought I weighed heavy yesterday b/c I ummm, needed to use the bathroom (sorry for the TMI), but I did, so I reweighed today and weighed MORE! What is up?! I would be ok with the same total weight gain if I hadn't gained a whole bunch this quickly, but if I keep this rate of gain up, I will be huge in no time. Yikes!

Your body is going to do what it needs to do in order to keep your baby healthy and safe. Period.

Weight gain in pregnancy is not a steady 1 pound a week, it comes in spells. You are up a total of 5 pounds in almost 19 weeks. That is the very low end of normal. Eat healthy and stay off the scale, otherwise you may end up with a lot of NST to check for IUGR. The health of your baby is first and foremost right now.

Even when not pregnant my weight fluctuates by several pounds just based on water or time of day or whatever. I think 3 lbs is well within the range of daily fluctuations that don't mean anything. Even if it did represent actual weight it is good, it means the placenta and amniotic fluid volume and your blood volume and the baby are all getting bigger, which they should be.

I have not gained any weight yet and I wish I would because it is a good sign at this point. I want to have plenty of fat stores for breastfeeding and at this rate I'll have lots of 3rd tri catching up to do.

I have had a couple weeks that I have shot up several pounds in a week and then I will go a week or two with no weight gain. I agree that it comes in spurts... its all about the average and you are still below average overall. I am up about 13lbs half way through... The baby by herself is nearing 1lb this month. Weight gain is inevitable now.

Weight gain also depends on the weight you start the pregnancy with. Usually of you are heavier you gain less and are also advised to gain about 15lbs and no more. Hugs Hun I'm sure baby is just growing nice and healthy.

I for instance have been advised in all my pregnancies to gain about 15/18lbs. Just because of my weight to begin with. Low weight gain does not automatically mean you are at risk for nsts and iugr.

I wish. Only gained 7 lbs entire pregnancy. I'm sure my Dr will put me on diet to gain weight. I'm snacking all day, and eating at meals to point of being uncomfortably full.

That is funny. We share the exact same EDD. Up until this week, I lost 6 pounds and gained about 3 (still down). Then this week happened. I gained 2 pounds in the same number of days. Overall it is a good sign. I have a doc appointment tomorrow - I suspect I would get a lecture re: needing to gain. Perhaps this will have the doc happy I say all I can do is eat healthy and let the scale say what it does.

I get that gaining weight is part of the deal and, like I said, I have no problem with the total amount. I just find 3 pounds in a week alarming. (Actually, it is only either 5 or 6 days.) And I expected a fluctuation down. My midwife told me at my last appt I had gained 3 pounds since my previous appt, but my scale didn't reflect that. When I go to the dr, it differs based on what kind of clothes I am wearing or how much I have had to eat or drink, so I don't put too much stock in that. I am careful to weight myself on the same scale and under as close to the same conditions as possible just to get the most accurate weight. She said 3 pounds in a month was ok, "especially with the holidays," which made me think it is bordering on more than I should normally gain during the second trimester. The weight gain def picks up in the 3rd tri, I know that. Again, it's the fact that it is several pounds in just a really short amount of time (more weight than I have ever gained in that kind of time, regardless of pregnancy or eating habits) a little crazy. My weight gain when I was pregnant with DD was really steady. I was really not expecting to see such a jump so quickly. Seems really nuts and was not my favorite thing to see on a stressful morning before work. It just makes me worry that I'm doing something wrong to gain weight that quickly. A few consecutive weeks like this could put me on the end of gaining too much. That is just what has me concerned.

I've had bigger gains throughout each of my pregnancies. Some weeks it's nothing or just a pound, but then I've had as much as 4-5 in a week. I blame doughnuts for that one

I have not stepped on the scale in a week or so...I'm sure I'm up a few I am have been eating like a cow...and craving donuts! But weight gain can vary...if you are carrying water weight around that could be a factor as well.

It also sounds like you are making a lot of healthy eating choices so I wouldn't worry too much about it. I had a hard time gaining weight in my first pregnancy, but I was eating really healthy and the babies were fine. I am having no problem this time, but I eat like crap... all the time... lol. It is pretty horrible actually. But it has also been easier to gain with each pregnancy too...so maybe that has something to do with it?
