Only thing I found a bit annoying about my first prenatal visit was that according to my LMP (if I ovulated on cd 14, which I didn't) I would be due Sept 6. But I let the ulstraound tech know and the doc know that, FYI, I ovulated on cd 19 (or possibly 18, but no earlier than that), NOT on cd 14. Lo and behold, the ultrasound dates based on measurements correlated with when I said I ovulated. So I thought, yes, this case has been made, they won't stick me with the LMP due date.

Wrong. The OB said "we're gonna go with the Sept 6 due date." I let it go for a minute and then brought up that I knew I didn't ovulate on cd 14 and I said the ultrasound said I was only 7 weeks 1 day, right? He said, yeah, it did, but it would be better to go with the Sept 6 date. He said that way if I get really uncomfortable toward the end I can get induced a few days sooner.

Uhh... I despise being induced. In fact, that's exactly why I want an accurate due date.

Because it does make a difference at the end to know whether I am 10 days overdue or 13 days overdue. I've gone 11 days overdue twice. And I like to "wait one more day" hoping for labor rather than get induced because labor doesn't go nearly as smoothly with an induction. But if they are convinced my "one more day" is making me overdue by a full 14 days instead of the actual 11 days, they will probably give me a hard time. Did I mention OY? I just don't understand why they would base the due date on imaginary dates when I said I KNOW I didn't ovulate on cd 14 and the ultrasound calculated otherwise as well! What sense does that make?

I'm thinking they will get some reminders toward the end of my pregnancy that, no, I'm actually due Sept 10. They will probably look at me like and I will say, yeah, I told you that 8 months ago.

ugh. I'm sorry. how frustrating. I would tell the doctor NOW that you have a tendency to go overdue, so it's very important that the due date on your chart is correct. You will NOT elect to be induced, so you definitely don't want to be forced into an induction because they miscalculated your due date.

Honestly, I'd probably find a new doctor. Personally, I have a list of objections to what you described, from not listening to you to the complete disregard for the natural birth process and best interests of mother and baby. They would probably kick me out of their practice for becoming too much of a pain in the *** after that! LOL

Good luck to you!

That is frustrating! I am likely to run into similar issues, because I know I ovulated on CD 18 or later, so based on that, I am going to measure "small" on the ultrasound but (hopefully) right on with my ovulation date. I have pre-term labor issues, instead of issues with going late, so I would hate for them to think I am further than I am and, subsequently, not stop labor when it actually needs to be stopped.

Ugh! I had the same problem when I went in! I ovulated on day 17 and they just act like you don't know anything! It IS more accurate and it's crazy that they go by lmp if you know when you ovulated. I was ticked off at my ultrasound technician. Oh, and I'm measuring behind. (I think too far but that's another story, I hope this baby makes is!!)

My dr is nutorious to change my due date to what he feels is right. However with that being said any dates thats less than 5 days my dr goes by lmp.. so if I were you, he to would stick with September 6

Oh I wanted to add that with my 6th my dr tried to bump my due date two weeks AHEAD, meaning I would of ovulated when I was on my period. It wasnt until my boy was born that he agreed he was wrong. ugh, what a dufus lol This time around my dr isnt doing an early scan cus Im getting an NT scan and becasue all my scans up until the 12 week scan never match.

Oh man! I hope that they don't give you any trouble about it! Hopefully, with this one, you won't go that overdue and it won't be an issue GL!

As soon as you said they wanted to go with the earlier date (before you even mentioned their reason why) I knew exactly why they wanted to keep it that way! Makes me so mad. I would be pretty upset they were not listening to me!

Have you thought about switching to another provider that is more natural birth friendly?

I've thought about switching but I have no idea who to try. I've delivered 4 babies with this practice so part of it is at least I'm comfortable in the office and am familiar with everything. I'm afraid of trying another practice and having it be no better or even worse. I have nothing to go on really. Not sure if it would be weird to call up another practice and ask questions, or how to go about finding out of they are my type of group.

We haven't even discussed it yet, but I also think that the hospital they deliver at doesn't allow VBACs. But I think the other hospital near me doesn't do them either! Oh well, I will save that anxiety for another day and another post. Trying not to get worked up quite yet. lol
