We did a gender reveal as part of my oldest's birthday party yesterday. Our family and close friends were there anyway so it just made sense. I attempted to make blue cake pops but those failed miserably (first time I've ever done it). So last minute before the party I am rushing to the store for another white cake mix so that I can just make a regular blue cake and frost it. I got the icing on it and all traces of blue cleaned up just as my mom came over to help with party set up. Phew! Then of course my 2 year starts telling her about a blue cake but I pretended that she was confused. No Abri, Lily's birthday cake is chocolate!

So party gets going and then we decide to go ahead with the birthday cake. DH put both cakes side by side thinking we would cut ours after the kids were settled with their birthday cake. Half of the adults were scattered around including me. My MIL was cutting the birthday cake and was worried that there wouldn't be enough for everyone. So she thought our cake was just an extra for the adults. Just as I'm walking into the room, she's slicing the reveal cake, and my SIL is yelling "No Mom!! Not yet!! That's the gender announcement!" So my MIL stops, looks at the knife covered in blue, totally confused. So then she says "What? It's blue, does that mean it's a boy?" At that point all the grown ups came back into the room to see my MIL still holding the blue knife. Not exactly how we had planned the reveal but at least it makes for a funny story to tease my MIL about.

Haha!! That's a pretty cute story. I like how quirky it ends.

OMG that is too funny! I guess it wasn't really her fault since she it seems she didn't know it was a gender reveal cake. Sounds like something my mom would do.

We are finding out the gender on Thursday and then my sister offered to host a dinner at her house and I am going to bring a cake to do the gender reveal.
