We sit down and have a family dinner with just our little family every night, even if we are eating take out.
We used to eat at DF's grandmas once a week with all his extended family but since she passed away, everyone has been bad about making an effort to get together. We try to eat with my parents every once in a while but we see them almost every day so it isn't as big of a deal if we miss a dinner with them.
My family lives so far away, so no. The in-laws live in town, but we only do family meals for holidays unless there's an impromptu get together down at the farm. And some nights we don't eat together as a family. When I was on my weight loss hustle, I ate completely different from dd and the hubs and at different intervals. I tried to always make a point to sit down at the table, though. Now... dd and I don't really need to eat dinner until 630 or so, but the hubs comes home from work starving. and, since most smells make me gag, my cooking has been rather minimal... I'm eating lots of fruits and raw veggies and the hubs likes a hot meal. I would really like to, like, make a meal plan every week and sit down together every evening... but I don't even know where to start with that. All this super mom/wifey stuff... I haven't fully grasped it all... and that makes me feel rather horrible haha
I grew up sitting down every meal together as a family, even if it was a fend for yourself night and that went on until my brothers got their drivers licenses, but there was three days a week we were all required to be home for dinner even then.
Do you have weekly family dinners with extended family? We did with my parents in NC. We would usually go out to eat at a restaurant on Friday nights, and then Saturday and/or Sunday evenings we would have dinner at their house. My Dad loves to cook and he always cooks enough to feed an army. Now that we're moving to FL, we'll probably do one weekend night dinner with his parents, and if my mom ends up moving down, we will do a weeknight and/or weekend dinner with her as well.
Do you eat together with your immediate family every night? Yes, DH's parents are much more traditional, so we always eat together as a family and say grace before the meal. My parents are total opposites, we've never said grace, and it's usually a fend for yourself during the weeknights, but we'll usually eat together on the weekends. When we have our little family alone at last in our new home, we will definitely do dinner as family every night, and start saying grace as well.
We have dinner together, just the three of us every night.
Since we live with my dad and step mum, and my brother and his wife live in the basement apartment, it's pretty easy to get together for family dinners. Saturday night we all have dinner together and then spend the evening playing cards and board games and (those of us who aren't pregnant) drinking more than we should I love Saturday nights.
Basically no branch of our families enjoy being mixed with each other.
My Dad and step-mother don't get along with Toby's parents or my Mom and her flavor of the week.
My in-laws don't get along with my Mom.
My brother and his family tolerate us at best.
So, this means that once a week we go to my in-law's house for dinner. Once a month my Mom hosts a dinner at her house from my brother's family and hers. My Dad and step-mother don't host dinners but we try to visit when we can.
I once requested that we have a big Christmas event where all the branches come together at one house (or rented cabin) and celebrate (just give us ONE FRIKKIN YEAR where it was easy!) and it got shot down, set on fire, stomped on, and buried under 6ft of concrete.
My immediate family, however, (DH, Alex, myself) eat dinner together every night.
'Scuse the bad typing, please. 'Breast is Best' but not when browsing the internet!
We dont do extended family dinners except at holidays. We used to go to my grans on sunday for sunday dinner growing up. But since she passed I am the family cook my mom seriously only cooks 4 things and shes terrible at it. And my parents are divorced so getting them both to come to my place is just sooo stressful on me cuz they behave horribly around each other.
We do eat dinner every night together though. For one its important to instill family values in DD and two. I will not cook seperate meals for my kids ever. We all eat the same thing. And if they dont like what i make...tough!
The four of us eat dinner together every night. I love the tradition of sitting at the table as a family. We did it when I was a kid, even after my parents got divorced my dad always made sure we sat down and ate together.
We usually have dinner once a week or once every other week with my step mom, my little brother and my two step sisters. My other little brother, sister in law and nieces used to be there too, but he recently got stationed in San Antonio. It was important for us all to continue that after my daddy died last Sept. Sometimes it's not as often as we like, because my step mom is a real estate agent and works long hours on the weekends. Me, DH and the boys usually go over to my aunt's once a week for dinner too, but we never plan it, it just happens, lol! Most holidays we get together with my dad's parents and all my aunts and uncles and most of my cousins, and sometimes we go to my grandparents for an impromptu visit. And every few months we get together with my mom's mom and her sister/s and my cousins and their kids. I love being so close to my family, especially since both of my parents have gone.
