Silly question but always want to make sure! cant find much information about it and I try not to bother my midwife with silly questions as much as possible. I really want to get my tan back but there is NO WAY I am getting in a bikini right now in public ( tempting because I really miss the pool!)
anyone know if its ok?

on a sidenote... thank you to everyone that wants to warn against skin cancer from tanning, I'm aware of the risk to me. Just curious about the effect on breastmilk! Thanks!

im not positive because ive never used a tanning bed but im pretty sure it has no effect on breast milk. Usually only things you ingest or absorb into your bloodstream have any effect on breast milk

I would think there would be no impact since you aren't consuming anything.

Thanks *Kiliki* for my amazingly perfect siggy!

I tanned my pasty self the month of February before we went on vacation and breastfed the whole time. Never occurred to me that it wasn't okay. I would think they'd have to put it in the waiver you sign if there were any risks...

I don't think there would be any effect on the breastmilk, unless more Vitamin D somehow made it into the milk? Which doesn't seem like a bad thing to me...

Oh thats a interesting point about the vitamin D, I didnt even think of that. Wonder if it would work?! lol. But I also didnt think of the stretch marks, I should probably wait until those get better before I go tanning. Tanning ruins the collagen so it would make stretch marks harder to fade no?

Idk about actual tanning and stretch marks. I use self tanning lotion myself, and it really makes them less noticeable, short term. I swear it helps long term as well... Maybe just wishful thinking, but the one I use does have collagen, so, maybe!
As for effect on breast milk, I've never heard anyone say it's not perfectly safe, any tanning method.

Ive tried the self tanner but it made me look orange so needless to say I stopped immediately. What kind do you use? do they all have an orange tint?
