I was just wondering if any of you ladies are covered up an individual or family healthcare plan that you aren't enrolled through work in. I am going shopping for rates on family healthcare rates and was just wondering what companies are good and which aren't. I may not be returning to work for long after my maternity leave and since my work is who we have insurance through, we will need to buy coverage ourselves. My husband's company offers insurance but it is $800/month and the rates I saw from BCBS were around $400-600 for our family. If we can get it cheaper than his employer and have good coverage with good copays and RX coverage, I am fine with a higher deductible($2500+-). Just wanted some opinions if you have experience in this.

wow that sounds very reasonable for independent insurance! my DH had his own insurance through aetna for a while which was very affordable for single coverage. he had a great experience with aetna. we now have the family under my plan at work and it's $420/month!!! plus a deductible and a 3500 out of pocket max (which i'm assuming i'll hit with this pregnancy and delivery).

I have BCBS through work and it's about $434 a month, so I would say that $400-600 a month for private coverage is fantastic. I guess my only advice would be to read the fine print on the contract to make sure there won't be any surprises.

"Shake it up now, Sugaree. I'll meet you at the Jubilee. And if that Jubilee don't come. Maybe I'll meet you on the run."

That sounds like a great price for private insurance! We pay $450 a month through DH's work and have Aetna but are switching to BCBS in June. Insurance is so pricey but I suppose the alternative it much more expensive.

We have to pay for private insurance since DH's work does not offer it. But we do a very high deductible and it saves us a ton of money each month. We just make sure we have the deductible amount tucked away in case big expenses come up. But it's nice having something.. I'd rather pay the high deductible than pay hundreds of thousands if anything serious ever came up!
