I had a checkup with my OB today. Some of you may remember me posting last month that when I went to schedule my future appointments I found out my doctor was pregnant and will be taking maternity leave in August. I was told by the scheduling desk that she should be back in time for my delivery and was only going to take 3 weeks or so. I got to congratulate her today, she is definitely showing now and was wearing maternity clothes instead of scrubs so you could see her bump- very cute! My baby sounded great I just got to hear the heartbeat with a doppler- it was 145 (girl maybe?). On the down side, my doctor said she is due August the 13th and plans on taking about 2 months leave. I am due October 14th which means that she will more than likely miss the delivery of my baby. She said if her boy comes early she might be able to make it, but I would still have to switch doctors for the last 2 months of my pregnancy. I know there is a chance she won't get to deliver me anyways, but I have grown to like her and am bummed that now I have to start all over. I have decided to keep seeing her until she goes on leave and then can hopefully find someone in the same practice to see the remainder of the time. I was hoping for an early peek at the gender but I will have to wait until the 13th for my scheduled ultrasound.

That's unfortunate timing indeed! I hope she can make a good recommendation for you. It's a shame she couldn't give you a consolation U/S!

Ohh, sorry to hear she will probably miss the delivery. I can understand wanting a specific dDr you feel comfortable with. Hopefully you'll get lucky though and it works out.

Total bummer. Hopefully it will all work out, and you'll love someone else in the practice.

that does suck. My OB office now has 4 docs instead of the 2 I am used to. That will take some time to swallow too.

Hope you find a doc in the practice who you click with! Hurray for an awesome heartbeat though!

Both my pregnancies have had a team approach, so I've never been assigned a particular doctor or midwife. I totally understand that you want the comfort of the person you trust and have a good relationship with in the room with you, but my personal experience is that when things kick in I just want that baby out and I don't care if it is the janitor that does it. It still sucks though. I hope you can meet some of the other doctors in the practice and find someone else you are comfortable with.

Its always nice to have your own dr deliver your baby. Hoping she is back in time for you. Although its not the worst thing if shes not. The dr isnt in the deliver room for very long. The nurses do all the work.
