So I was just informed that I am positive for group B strep I was not when I had dd so I'm confused.

Has anyone else been deemed positive as well in prior pregnancies? If so what meds were you given? Also do you know if I can still decline the goop in the eyes with being positive for group B strep?

I had Group B with our first. I was treated with two bags of antibiotics during delivery. I "think" with our second they just presumed you were if you had a positive in a prior pregnancy. I was supposed to be treated. My delivery was too quick. They just checked our son out at 48 hours to ensure no signs of anything. With this pregnany, I was just checked at 36 weeks and will find out on Thursday.

I had the swab at my last appointment. My online chart was updated this morning letting me know that I tested positive.
I'm really frustrated by it, but oh well. I'm wondering about the eye goop as well... google and I are about to get pretty cozy.

There are a few things you can do before delivery to treat it but it is commonly treated during delivery with antibiotics. Huge hugs hun!

I was positive my first kid and not this one. They had me on antibiotics the ENTIRE 13 hours of labor with my first son and I believe you do still have to have the goop in the eyes after birth. good luck!

I tested positive too - they just give you antibiotics every 4 hours during labor to kill off the bacteria. I'm not sure about the eye goop though?

We will be having antibiotics already because of the C-section and the doctor said it doesn't change our plan at all. Apparantly I was positive with my first and never even knew it.

Hi, I had the same thing happen. I never tested positive with either DD and DS so I didn't expect to hear I was positive this time around, so weird. My midwife told me I would get a dose of antibiotics at the beginning of labor and then 4 hours later but I am worried my labor will be quicker and will only get one dose. I am worried what it all means for the baby. I am planning on asking lots of questions on my appointment tomorrow.

My doctor ended up calling me today and explained that no need to have goop in the eyes even if I'm positive for strep B it is 2 different things so that made me feel better. Also 1 in 5 women will have it and it is unknown why some may have it in 1 pregnancy and not the other. He said if my water breaks and I have a c section or if my water breaks and I am able to go vaginally then it is one kind of IV medicine if I go c section & my water does not break it is a different kind of medicine bith will protect baby and I dod not need treatment.

I was very glad to talk with him

i'm glad he called and reassured you!
When they did my test they kind of tried to explain to me that it was fairly common and not to stress if you came up positive because it wasn't serious.
