So I had my Dr appt today. They put me on medication for the Bells palsy. No induction as of yet although she will discuss it at my next appt. When she checked me I am dialated to a 1 almost a 2. So that was good news. They had me on the monitors for a NST what with everything going on and little man was doing good. I had one tiny contraction in the half hour I was hooked up but I didn't even feel it lol.
The bells palsy completely sucks. I can't blink my right eye and it waters a lot and my mouth on my right side doesn't move at all when I talk so drinking out of a straw is hard. And I made a complete mess of myself when trying to brush my teeth this morning as spitting out toothpaste = really challenging lol Its also causing me some pain behind my eye on that side. I also have a headache only on that side. My ear on that side feels like I have an ear infection even though I don't. And my neck on that side pretty much feels like I slept wrong...even though I didn't. And I also have visual disturbances from my eye constantly watering on that side and from not being able to blink where it frequently goes blurry or seems like there is something in my eye. So not fun. I feel like Quasimodo

I hope the medications works. That stinks that if inducing you would fix the headache problem that they wouldn't just do that. I mean you are 3 days from you due date and that headache sounds terrible! Hopefully your little guy decides to come soon.

I'm sorry for all the trouble you're having but I'm glad you're starting to dilate. I hope the meds help right away.

Unfortunately the meds will not help right away and neither would inducing me help right away either. Basically bells palsy can take anywhere from 6 weeks to even 6 months to heal completely the best I can hope for is improvement within 2 weeks. The meds will help the swelling that is happening on my facial nerve that's causing the paralysis to that side of my face and will help strengthen my facial muscles again. Also there are risks that it won't improve or even improve completely. They do not know 100% what causes Bells palsy but pregnant women are 3 times more susceptible to it. Also if someone had it in your family you can be more genetically predisposed to it. And if you have herpes simplex 1(cold sores) they feel that is possibly what causes it...is the virus attacks the facial nerve near your ear instead of manifesting in say a cold sore. Well obviously I am very pregnant. My gran had it twice. I had a mild case of it when I was 21. And thanks to my mom I've had cold sores since I was a child. All around a walking time bomb for it. I am hoping that I have no lasting damage from it and that I do recover completely. I hope recovery is quick. However two weeks if about the standard medication time and timeframe that they hope for "some" improvement. If no improvement by then I will be sent for a brain MRI.
I know that was a big long explanation for what I'm dealing with but I realized I didn't fully explain what was going on.
