Aidan is growing insanely fast. He is 6 1/2 weeks old and as of last Friday, he has gained 5lbs exactly. He is wearing 3-6 months clothes and size 2 diapers already. He is rapidly approaching the weight limit for his bassinet, also. This stresses me out a little. Once he hits that limit, we will move him to his crib, which is in his room, where the bassinet is in our room. It makes me nervous that he won't be so close and I have a feeling I'll spend quite a few nights sleeping in my recliner in his room.

I hesitated to bring this up because I know that a lot of you ladies are having trouble with babies gaining weight, but this is really weighing heavy on my mind.

Is bed sharing not an option for your family? As of your not comfortable with him sleeping in his crib yet and he is outgrowing the bassinet then maybe you should consider letting him sleep next to you.

I have a cradle like this next to my bed.

and it is weighted for 50 lbs

I love it. It is smaller, sturdy and I feel, more durable.

Just plan on replacing the mattress that is comes with, as they are usually flimsy.

Do you have room to sidecar the crib in your room? That way he has is own space but is still close? The other option would be to use a pack n play if you have one.

I may be in a similar boat soon. G was already 10 lb 11 oz at his 2 week appt yesterday and today we switched out of the newborn size cloth diapers, into the smalls. And he is strong, he moves his head and holds it up by himself A LOT for his age. I think he will be early with the mobillity milestones and will also be even faster growing than his sister... we have him in our bed and the arm's reach cosleeper, but I think he'll outgrow the cosleeper/bassinet setting early (it has a 20ish lb weight limit but they can't be able to pull themselves to a sitting position or pull up on the sides), and it provides the safe edge of our shared sleep space.

I think for us, the best bet will be a side carred crib with solid high sides. If he wants to nurse a lot at night up through 1 year old like his sister did, I need him very close and with a safe boundary to the bed/sleep space. We live in an old house with tiny bedrooms and have a high queen bed and there's just no room to create a much different arrangement. With DD we had room to have the queen mattress on the floor with a twin futon next to it, but we can't do that now.
