We had them here a few years ago (they appeared after a trip out of the country), and they were a nightmare to get rid of. I am very much anti-chemical, so I did explore the highly effective heat method, but couldn't find anyone to do it in my area. We settled on chemicals, and needed a total of 3 treatments to get rid of them.
What was really horrible was the preparation. I had to strip all of the rooms, bagging up everything, even pulling pictures off of the wall and removing electrical outlet plates. Some things I washed in hot water, some things I had to blast with my steam cleaner, then everything else was inspected, some tossed away. My mattresses and pillows were covered in covers used for dust mites, the zipper part sealed with duct tape. After treatment, I had my carpets steam cleaned professionally, then I used my steam cleaner on a regular basis on my couches just to be safe. Dirty clothes had to be removed and placed in plastic bags before they ever touched any surface, then transported to the laundry room to be washed (just in case there were any eggs on them). This is a nightmare that I wouldn't wish on anyone.
All of our habits have changed since this incident. When we return from traveling, we bring our suitcases into the garage, pull out the clothes, placing them in plastic bags for washing, then clean off everything else before putting it back. The luggage itself never even enters the house. We also shower and change clothes before sitting on the couches.
The fact that your problem seems to be confined to one room is a good thing! I hope that you get rid of it quickly.
