What's the point of this? I see it on all the baby registry "must have" lists but why? I live in Oregon, so it's not like it gets super dry out here. Rain rain rain. There are some dry bouts but I don't know if I really need one of these. I always thought of them more as germ spreaders than anything else.

It's a MUST HAVE when your kiddo gets sick. a cool mist humidifier with some baby vicks is about the only "cure" for the first 2 years of their life.

We have to have a humidifier here in the winter...It gets extremely dry otherwise. Our heating system has an integrated humidifier, but its still not enough. However, I like to use the steam type humidifier since I am not very good at cleaning the reservoir regularly...this way I know its not spewing mold spores or something. The con with it is you might get some condensation on windows etc. and its not good for electronics(sue to the condensation)...but we don't have any electronic items in our bedroom. It really helps when kids are dealing with congestion etc.

I live in Houston, land of 100% humidity 100% of the time and I ended up buying a vaporizer (same deal but you can put in vicks) when she was about 2 and had her first real sickness. It really does help when they're at an age where they can't have any of the medicines. We have only used it like 6 times and she's 4 years old? But it's been very helpful those times.

We have used a cool mist humidifier a few times when DS was really congested. I do think it makes a difference. I just borrowed by parents, but really should get my own. Its kind of one of those things that you will be thankful you can pull out of the closet when you need it.
