I started back to work a week and a half ago. Since that time, we've had our first bad diaper rash and our first cold. This sucks.

The diaper rash started on his first day. It cleared up over the first weekend, and clears up a good bit overnight. At the end of last week, the rash that was almost gone in the morning had gotten so bad it was bleeding by the time I picked him up. They change him every hour regardless of whether he's got a dirty diaper or not, so I know it's not that they are letting him sit in a dirty diaper. They keep trying to say that it's because he's having too many dirty diapers a day. I know that's not it because he's not having any more dirty diapers than normal and we don't have regular problems with rashes at home. He's breastfed and his doctor says that as long as it's not a sudden increase in number then not to worry about it. His doctor and I suspect that it's due to a sensitivity to wipe solution. We use cloth wipes and plain water at home, but daycare insists on using a minimum of three wipes per change. Unfortunately, because it's a center that is associated with the Army, every single thing that doesn't fall under normal SOP has to have documented doctor's orders. Hopefully, we'll be starting with changing the wipes to paper towels with warm water (although I'm going to angle for using my cloth wipes) to see if that clears up the problems.

The cold just kind of hit out of nowhere Thursday night. He and I both got it. Luckily, Friday was an off day for me, so we got three days to hang out at the house and recover. I'm back at work this morning, but Finn stayed with grandma today.

Oh wow, that's terrible. I hope the little guy gets over those rashes soon! Adelyn had one bad rash and it was because of the wipes we were using. We now use the sensitive ones and it seems to be working.

And good idea about staying away from the cold! Nothing worse than being sick or having a sick baby.

After the first day we switched to a sensitive brand of wipes. It seemed to work for a few days, but then got bad again. Poor kid must have gotten his dad's sensitive skin.

I just hate to keep switching brands to find something that works when he's in pain, ya know?

aawwe poor him!! That is such a heartache, I know they said they change him every hour but could it be that they are waiting too long after he has dirtied his diaper to change him?

Maybe they dont realize thats its soiled until its been on him for a bit? I hope things turn around for him and they can work with you to get it managed and prevent it from happening again. Will they apply some sort of cream or something on it even for a couple of days after its gone to see if that helps?

It's very possible that he's dirtying his diaper just as soon as they've changed him and he's sitting in it until the next change. Dirty/wet diapers don't seem to bother the silly boy. My goddaughter was a diva about them and screamed as soon as it was the slightest bit dirty. I can see this making potty learning a challenge.

They have been using Desitin on him. I had originally gone with Boudreaux's, but they requested Desitin after that first day and have used that every day since. They used an entire tube in two days as a matter of fact . I was having to scrub him down as soon as we got home because Desitin isn't compatible with my cloth diapers and I'm not about to send my good cloth compatible cream with him if they are going to use disposables. That stuff's like $11 a tube.

We had a similar experience with some wipes. Some just don't work for some babies.

WOW! thats ALOT of cream!!! I dont think I would send your expensive cream for the cloth diapers either unless they agreed to pay for it! Hopefully it will calm down soon!
