So after losing some weight and still being 6.5 oz under her birth weight at 2 weeks Kinley weighed in at 8 lbs 9 oz today at 3 weeks!! That's 9.5 oz higher than she was last week and 3 oz above her birthweight. I am so relieved!! I'm thinking my milk was just slow to come in and she probably got below what's recorded.

I still hope I can increase my supply so she'll keep gaining and I can start pumping extra for when I go back to work.

Yay for Kinley & mama!

You know I just read somewhere that after an induction birth or one where mommy is getting IV fluids, babies can also put on water weight, just like mommy. So maybe her first weigh-in was deceiving and your supply has been fine. Just a thought.

Desi I've thought about that!! Both of my babies were so swollen and on the bigger side. Then Carter turned out to be a little runt and it looks like Kinley will be on the smaller side too. I think they're just meant to be small. Carter gained quickly once we added formula on top or his regular nursing but by 2 he wasn't even on the charts! Made me think he's just a little guy and it wasn't a breastfeeding issue after all.

The charts are off IMO. I have normal sized babies and they're always on the low side of the chart (well Max is not normal sized but the first two were). I also think the charts are made for formula fed babies who tend to chunk up. My friend's formula fed baby is already 14 lbs at 2 months- he was only a 7 lb baby!! Of course, my first two were formula babies and my second one was never higher than the 5th percentile until she was over one.

Anyway, congrats and way to grow Kinley!!

I think what Desi said might be spot on since you were induced. I wish that could explain it for us but I didn't have any IV fluids (except pit after she was already out)

I've been wondering about this! No one expected Cece to be 9 lbs. But with my induction lasting nearly 48 hours, I was massively swollen with fluids by the end. I'm just starting to be able to wear shoes again! I've been worrying that she won't be back to birth weight at her 2 week because of all of the fluids. On day 1, when she is expected to have 1 wet diaper, she had 6 or 7.

I would make sure you tell your pedi about being induced. Mine wanted to keep an eye on her but never said anything about introducing formula, which I was happy about!

Fantastic news!!!! That's amazing! I've also wondered about how much fluid the baby gets from IVs and such, since I was pumped full of a bunch of stuff with DS1.
