I think waiting a couple of weeks to establish your nursing relationship would be better. Maybe closer to 4 weeks. I am going to have a friend give my baby a bottle this week. It hasn't gone great and at some point soon it will be too late.
I've never been able to do that. I wouldn't produce enough to just stop nursing or pumping all night. Are you planning to get up and pump in the middle of the night? Otherwise it would probably really hurt your supply.
Thank you Vicki... For the adorable siggy!
I started pumping around day 4 due to needing a break on my left side after a bad bruise on my nipple plus some bleeding. Also I had supply issues due to not wanting to nurse because of the pain. I've worked hard over the last week to correct his poor latch, get my supply up and nurse as often as possible. It worked because my supply is through the roof and he surpassed his birthweight at his 2 week check up today. My husband has been giving him pumped milk since I started pumping - it's been about 1.5 to 3oz total per day, usually late in the evening when my nipples are super sore. Lucas has had no issues going back and forth between bottle and boob.
My first DD did well with a bottle starting at 2 weeks when she was still losing weight and we started supplementing with pumped milk and formula. We stopped giving formula at 4 weeks and I EBF. When we tried to give her pumped milk about a month after that (after not having a bottle during that time) she refused it and we couldn't get her to take a bottle again. So for us giving it earlier has worked out best.
