So I work in downtown Chicago (just celebrated a year here in July) and I have loved it so far but the commute is a killer. I am up at 5 a.m. every weekday, on a train by 6:12 and at work by 7:20 or so. And then I am off at 5 p.m. and the commute reverses.
But then I found out I was pregnant and I got to thinking about how horrible the city sidewalks are in winter and how they are hardly ever shoveled. Last winter I fell twice in one day. That would definitely NOT be ok at 6-8 months pregnant.
I left my hotel job in the suburbs because we got a new GM who turned out to be a backstabbing horrible person. He fired our best workers and made it unbearable to work there for others and ended up hiring all of his own friends, regardless if they actually had the job experience.
Fast forward to now and he has resigned and they have a new GM and I have expressed interest in returning (25 min commute opposed to over an hour and a half) and I go tomorrow for an interview. This would really be the best thing for our little family and a lot less stressful for me too. I will miss my co-workers here but I know a lot of the people back at the old hotel too. (One of them is my best friend). I just need to make sure I could get a certain pay amount per hour in order to be ok with our mortgage.
I'm just asking for some good thoughts please! (And a week from today we get to see our little baby with our first U/S! I cannot believe its finally just 7 days away!)
Good luck !!! It sounds like it would be the best thing for you and the little bean. I couldnt imagine you riding so long later in the pregnancy and I would worry that you be far away from the DRs if you needed them.
Ill keep my fingers crossed !!
Thank you!!! I will definitely let you know the results. This would be the best for our family right now. I know to just leave it to God and what is meant to be will happen but good thoughts can't hurt right?

Sooo it went very well! It wasn't much of an interview either... I met the GM for about 3 seconds before he went off to fix some problems. My old coworkers had already told him great things about me. He asked if I was flexible and I am so that's all he really asked.
Then I spent about an hour catching up with the Accounting Manager.
I'm just waiting to hear for sure that the hourly rate I asked for was approved and as long as that happens, I'm moving back to the suburbs! (for work I mean because I already live in the suburbs lol)
