Since they are pretty similar, and Terry suggested it, I'll put them together today. I include two different sites to learn from, The first one is where I get the paragraph from and the second one (per Terry also) has a video of the stitch. I'll admit I'm a member of Annie's Attic and never realized they had videos lol. If anyone has questions, feel free to post them, I'll answer as accurately as I can, and I'm sure Terrywilkinson can help also.

Half Double Crochet (hdc)
The half double crochet stitch is slightly taller than the single. It has a pronunced ridge in its fabric.
YO and insert hook in 3rd chain from hook. Catch Yarn, A, and draw a loop through the loop.(3 loops on hook), Yarn over and pull through all 3 loops loops on hook to complete stitch. Work a half double across row in each chain across row. After last stitch chain 2, turn and begin 2nd row.

Double Crochet (dc)
The double crochet stitch twice the height of the single and less compact. It forms the basis of many pattern stitches.
YO and insert hook in 4th chain from hook. Catch Yarn, A, and draw a loop through the chain.(3 loops on hook), Yarn over and pull through 2 loops, Yarn over and pull through 2 loops on hook to complete stitch. Work a double across row in each chain across row. After last stitch chain 3, turn and begin 2nd row.

I need help with these ....

My book home here has the IDENTICAL instruction pics as in the links you posted.

What happens to me is that I do the first stitch PERFECT where it goes onto the second row ... however ... I can't seem to do another one ...

do you have any illustrations or can you help me to do this?

Ok so you do the first stitch perfect....is that the turning chain or the stitch after? Which one are you trying to do, dc or hdc?

the first stitch I do is the turning stitch to get on the second row

I tried with both the hdc and also dc and both times I got the first stitch right ... but I just dunno how to continue to make the second stitch (I know I sound dumb but I tried everything! )

yes but most books say to under both loops of the "v" but like alot of things, you have to do what's easiest and most comfortable for you. So if that's what works for you, it typically comes out the same for basic fabrics

oh what a sweet offer! ... I only just saw this post ...

I'm doing the double crochet now ....

here's what I was doing wrong .... I kept counting the three to four chains and trying to do the stitches so hence obviously my thingy was curling.

Also I tried chaining four again and then doing the stitch LOL

I didnt realise the instructions was mainly for the turn only and that all the stitches go into EACH chain
