This place helped me so much in teaching myself how to knit about 4 months ago.
They have videos and forums and patterns to help you.

I love Knitting Help. It's taught me most of the stuff that my mom didn't know.

Here are a couple of other great places! KnittyBoard is a great place. Plus you can check out knitty.com through there. They have great patterns! And incase you hadnt heard about it, Ravelry sounds and looks like it is a wonderful place chalk full of knit and crochet info! But you need to get on the waiting list, cause it is getting long!

The Lime & Violet MB is another good one for knitting (and crochet) help.... Just be warned, there's a lot of indie spinners and dyers on there.... You may become addicted to buying things on Etsy because of them.

I can attest to KnittyBoard and Ravelry being great places too.... Especially Ravelry. I'd recommend everyone get on the waiting list for that. I had to wait about a month before I got my invite, but it was sooooooooooooo worth it!
