I've always thought that luteal phase is supposed to be consistant in every cycle, being between 11-14 days or so. But we're finding with DH that for me, every cycle it's something different.
My cycles are irregular but they average 32-33 days with the occasional 28 and 45 day cycles. But the luteal phase is sometimes 12 days, sometimes 10 days, and sometimes only 5 or 6 days. In the last 4 months or so, I think I've had 2 cycles with a luteal phase that was only 5 or 6 days. Is this normal? We're are certain when ovulation happened, but then AF arrives shortly after. I'd just expect that phase being longer, at least 10 days maybe...Hmm.
That's too much of a fluctuation. When breastfeeding and during the first 6 or so cycles after you wean, it's normal to have a shorter LP - but it usually gets longer with each cycle until it reaches a healthy length, and then remains consistent. But if you're getting these 5 and 6 day LP's following cycles during which you had 10 or 12, something strange is going on.
If you would like me to have a peek at your charts to see if I can shed some light on it for you, don't hesitate to PM me. Or ring up CCL - they are very good phone with chart support for their members.
