Hello! I'm actually following Shawna over from an answer she posted to a question I had on Birth Control. I'm really interested in starting the Billings Method. Right now, I'm on Depo Provera, but my shot is due to be renewed by 6/8. The only problem is that my husband thinks that the only NFP/FAM method is the rhythm or calendar method. So I have 2 questions:

- When should I start with Billings Method? I want to take the online course, so I'm wondering if I should wait until after 6/8?

- Does anyone know of a good source of information that I could show my husband about the success rate of Billings Method?

Thanks!

ETA: I started the Billings Method online course, so I'm getting started! I'm going to be practicing noticing signs until 6/8, but not relying on them.

I did the BOM course online - show your husband the Basic Instruction PDF.

Good Luck - welcome to the BOM club! LOL!

Welcome to NFP! With Depo, it took me over a year for me to get regular again. I had 4 shots. Actually, it has only been the last 2 cycles I have considered normal so that would be more like 2 years. But, I have been successful, even after Depo with FAM so it shouldn't be too daunting. The best part about this, you don't have to worry about being pregnant on extra long cycles (like my 100+day cycle).

I have only had 2 shots... I just really hate getting shots. I'm a big weanie! I will make sure to show DH the pdf. I'm kind of nervous about starting! It will be nice to not have to worry about temping, though. That was what I did to conceive our first little one. Now I'm not sure I get 4 consecutive hours of sleep anymore!

That is why I went with BOM. My son was 6 months old when I chose BOM and 7 months old when I started it. I was still up with him at night and half the time not in bed (fell asleep in his room nursing him) when my alarm would go off. I am sure you are going to love it.

Good plan to take the course now, and start charting when your next shot is due. If at all possible, have your DH do the online course with you or read the Basic Instruction at least. Then he can understand the science of it himself, instead of taking your word for it (not to imply that you are unreliable, but dudes seem to need to see the facts for themselves!)

As for effectiveness, it's 99% when all the rules are followed. Here are some links to several of the studies done on it:
