And I was reading a post on prenatal vitamins. It got me wondering about whether I should start taking them now that I am using FAM (even though we're TTA) or at the very least be taking a folic acid supplement. I know some doctors recommend that all women of childbearing age take folic acid as a preventative measure, but what about regular prenatal vitamins? Any thoughts? I am currently not taking any multivitamins (although I probably should) and I do have a bottle of prenatals sitting around from last year.

It certainly wouldn't hurt anything. Because FAM carries the same failure rate as whatever barrier you're using with it, your chance of pregnancy will be higher than it was while on the Pill - but lower than if you were using nothing at all.

I have used FAM for almost 2 years and I have taken a prenatal the whole time. As Shawna said, it wouldn't hurt anything to take them. My nails are beautiful too

Other than a few months after my son weaned from nursing I have been on a prenatal since November 2005. It won't hurt you at all!

I'm taking them, as I'm using FAM as my form of birth control. It won't hurt ya!

I took them about 6 months before our wedding (5 & 1/2 years ago) to help my nails and hair grow There is lots of good stuff in prenatal...I say take them just for your own well being.
