I've read that the first day of your cycle is the first day you see red blood. Well, for me that was technically yesterday. I started cramping about 2pm, brown-colored spotting about 5pm, then actually bleeding at 11pm. Do I count yesterday as my first day, or today since it was so late last night that it actually happened.
My thinking is that, had I been asleep already, I wouldn't have known til this morning and would have counted today as day 1. But since I was awake and it was still Monday when it started, I'm not sure... Just don't want to mess up my chart.
It doesn't matter what color the bleeding is, the first day of your cycle is the the first of actual flow - when you require more than a pantyliner. Spotting days prior to that are part of the previous cycle and are counted as part of your Luteal Phase. So last night sounds right to me!
