When I was 17, I got on the Ortho Tri-Cyclen pill. Pretty much no side effects, other than a cup size gain (which I was pleased with, lol... unfortunately I lost the cup size when I went off the pill

). I was on the pill for a little over a year. That's when I got married and my husband and I decided to TTC right away.
Took us almost 3 years to conceive (maybe due to the pill? maybe due to not knowing my cycles as well as I should have? who knows)... then had our beautiful baby boy. After he was born, I got the Mirena IUC. Didn't really get much side effects from that either, and I loved it at first. But I started hearing horror story after horror story from people I actually KNEW about the thing causing major cysts, getting lodged in the uterus (or getting lodged somewhere else), falling out without them knowing, having to have it surgically removed, getting pregnant with it... etc etc. There have got to be at least 10 people that I actually KNOW who had major problems with their Mirena. Combined with the fact that I could *never* feel the strings (even when I tried... which they tell you to do once a month to make sure it's still there), the thing just scared the utter crud out of me and I hated the complete lack of control I had over it. I couldn't wait to get it out. Had it in for about a year before we decided to get it removed and to start TTC #2.
I've also used condoms a few times (and different brands)... but they've always made me really red and sore. I hate condoms. I've used spermicide before, didn't have an issue with it.
After about 5 months of loosely TTC, I started getting into charting... and LOVED it. Took us 6 cycles of charting when we conceived our daughter. While I don't have anything against hormonal birth control (or barrier methods), and I'd absolutely put my daughter on hbc if she asked to be on it (at a much later age of course)... I realized now that hbc just isn't for ME. I really really enjoyed charting and can't wait to continue doing it after my daughter's born.

We'll also be using the diaphragm and spermicide during my fertile periods.
