Do you do an internal check, or do you externally check?

No internal checks here, they aren't the most accurate.

I was actually wondering about this. I've been doing internal checks, but I think they've caused me to have more "fertile" observations than I should. Any suggestions/ hints about doing external checks???

Probably. During the infertile parts of your cycle, glands called the Pockets of Shaw in the vagina dry up the mucus as it flows out. They act like a really absorbant towel and soak up the water from the mucus. Going in to check internally disrupts this process, so it's not unusual to mistakenly think you have more fertile days than you actually do by doing that! To make external observations, just pay attention to what you feel as you go about your normal daily activities. Do you feel nothing or dry? Do you feel wet? Slippery? Sticky? You can write down one word to describe what you felt throughout the day, and one or two words to describe anything you happened to see on toilet paper. That's about all there is to it!

Thanks so much Shawna! Before I got pregnant, I was using STM, which recommends internal checks... but since I'm breastfeeding, I've switched over to BOM. My poor DH has been so good while I'm trying to get the hang of it all!

Which STM were you using? If it was CCL, they actually made revisions to their method in 2008 and are no longer recommending internal CM checks for the reasons I mentioned above.

OT, it's good to see you again! I was wondering how you've been!

It was CCL. I hadnt realized they'd changed their recommendations.
