I was wondering why each of you chooses NFP. Religion? TTC? Health? or what

AFM: I chose NFP for religious reasons. I am Catholic.

I chose FAM because I just can't abstain for that time in which I'm fertile. I'm loosely charting intercourse right now, but my husband can't go that long. It's been hard enough as of late anyway because i have had no sex drive. It's been before Zoe and Caleb, but it's been really bad as of late.

Anyway, long story, and probably WAY TMI.

I am only using NFP until the end of the Marquette study then switching back to FAM. I am not a fan of abstinence during fertile times like Kelly. I chose to start using FAM because of health. I needed to get off of hormonal BC before it hospitalized me further for more serious complications.

DH is very Catholic, so he is not for any kind of BC but he is actually the one who suggested NFP.

I took hormonal BC before and I got suicidal so I won't take it anyway, plus I have PCOS so my cycles are wonky and the BC didn't help, only Metformin would which makes you more fertile.

I came to the conclusion on my own that birth control was bad...morally, and then being Catholic I found out the church agrees, so I was determined to make sure I followed that conclusion.

I get way to crazy on BCP so we started knowing when our times to avoid were and using other means of protection. I didn't know it was as popular a method as it seems to be .

for my future health. I've been on the pill, but discovered the bad effects it has on the body, and neither DH or I like using condoms!

Catholic, health, bad effects previously on the pill.

ChicaChels - I don't know if I believe Metformin makes people with PCOS more fertile - I have been on it a year (and have had no hormones in 4 years) and I am still not pregnant.

Oh - and all you Catholic Ladies should visit the Catholic Parenting board too!

FAM for health reasons (even though I never had any issues while on HBC). I too do not wish to abstain during the fertile period.

I also tend to chose more environmentally friendly and natural options, and while HBC never had adverse reactions within my body, if there's an effective natural substitute, that's what I'd rather use. Plus, I just LOVE charting! I really like colour coding my charts (hehe) and I love knowing what's going on with my body.

Wow this is an older post but anyways, its a combination of faith, health, and eco-friendliness for me. I had a lot of health issues that stemmed from HBC, I also don't feel comfortable putting anything non-natural into my body, I'm still on the fence whether I think it is morally right or not though.
