Thought it might be helpful (to me, anyway) if everyone told the reasons they like THEIR method the best.

So what would you say if you tried to sell your method?

Although I don't know for sure that I would like my version of NFP (sympto-thermal method) the best if I knew more about the others, I will say that...

- I like the STM b/c I can confirm for sure that I did ovulate through the temps, and it provides cross-checks (mucus + temps + sensations) so that you aren't relying on one sign to determine where u are in your cycle.

I can only compare it to Serena STM and the Creighton Model, because those are the only other two kinds of NFP we've used. But for us, here is what we like about Billings:

- only 4 rules to remember
- must less abstinence for us during the long, PCOS cycles than was required when we used Serena STM
- evidence based rather than calender based. I like knowing being able to use my BIP for as long as it lasts every cycle, rather that having to cut ourselves off on a particular cycle day for no reason.
- less expensive than when we used the Creighton Model
- easier to identify my BIP than with Creighton
- easier to recognize Peak than with Creighton
- no worrying about getting an undisturbed temp
- no touching/stretching/measuring the mucus! YAY!

I've only ever used BOM but here is what I love about it and why I chose it over others:
Only a few rules like Shawna said
So simple...just chart sensation and appearance every day.
No worrying about temps or cp, or touching, measuring mucus.

I did temp for a couple months after my period returned this time just to give myself that extra reassurance but now that I'm feeling more comfortable w/ it I'm back to just charting.

Well, I'm the third person in this thread who uses BOM so for my only additional sales point I'll add great support group on this board for BOM.

I am intrigued by BOM. I just read about it last night again and watched a power point from the website. It sounds super similar to CCL'S NFP STM in terms of rules... except you only chart the mucus instead of temps, cp, and all that.

I wonder which requires more abstinence for the PP period, and also for when you have normal cycles?

It's my understanding that CCL has BIP protocols only while breastfeeding, you can't identify infertile discharge when you're cycling. I think that would lead to more abstinence than necessary for some women. And doesn't CCL use a cut off rule, where you have to start abstaining on a certain day based on your history rather than the actual observations? That could potentially lead to more abstinence than is necessary to. But depending on the woman, depending on her cycles - the amount of abstinence could be about the same between the two methods.
