Hi Everyone -

My name is Missy. I am 42 and pregnant. DH is 32 and this is our 1st together. Due to my age it took us 2.5 years with 4 losses to get this far and we are thrilled to be having a baby girl!

We would like this to be our only baby; It has been a physically hard pregnancy on me and we both agree that Scarlett will be our only child.

We were talking about birth control options and while the chances of me getting pregnant again at my age are slim to none, I would still like to prevent.

- The pill and any other hormonal methods are out - I get horrible migraines and the hormones add to them.
- I am not interested in the IUD or sponges
- Besides condoms it just seems that birth control is geared towards it being a woman's responsibility

I am sorry... babbling. We both feel that Natural planning would work for us. I have really regular cycles and we did opk's, watched cm ect... to get pregnant. I don't see why we couldn't do it to not get pregnant.

Thank you for reading!

Hello Missy! Natural Family Planning is abstinence during fertile times. You would observe your fertility to determine the times you are fertile. There are several methods of this. It depends on you which one you choose for yourself. There are stickies that talk about all of this on the board too.

Just for distinction, FAM is charting your fertility and using a form of birth control (i.e. condoms) during the fertile time. Less reliable than abstinence, but an option for some.

I am still so excited for you and this little girl! It has been amazing to get to know you in PAL.

Welcome! I think the first step is decided which method you are going to use. Are you going to abstain completely during your fertile time (NFP) or are you going to use a barrier during your fertile time (FAM)? then you need to decide which exact method you are going to use. Learning your method well with the help of a certified instructor is the best way to go.

I use the Billings Ovulation Method. It is wonderful for after having a baby and breastfeeding. But it can be confusing so that's where the help of an instructor is invaluable!

There is info on the different methods in the stickies tab!

Hi Rachel! Nice to see a familiar face in here

Thank you ladies for the time you took to post. I will read all of the stickies and then I am sure I will have a ton of questions. I feel this is going to be the best route for us.

I look forward to getting to know you all.

One of the most important things is that you get the right instruction while learning, right now while you're pregnant you could look into what methods there are and figure out which you think is for you and then look into how to get an instructor for what you're interested in.

Welcome!
