I'm Ashley, 28 in a week, newly married to Woody, 34 and happy step mom to 6 year old Reme who is undergoing testing for Autism.

(some TMI below, if there can be TMI when you are on a board that uses CM all the time. lol)

Due to a problem obtaining the birth control I need from US doctors (I'm Canadian and suffer from Aura migraines) I've been given no choice but to switch to "risking it" as my husband calls it.

So that led me to doing FAM. Temping, checking CM (Late in the day to allow my body to sort itself from DTD or any protection we may use), and being careful. This is my first cycle, and so far I've been a little more than clueless. lol.

Several health conditions have also led to this choice, like latex and plastic allergies, a protein sensitivity etc.

We are actually WTTC for the next 2 years due to his type of work, but if my body decides that 2 years isn't in the works, then so be it. He is well aware of the risks that we take, and since those risks don't deter him at all, it will be all his fault . We will use spermicide during my most fertile times this month and see how that works for me, since I don't check my CM until almost 20 hours after using it because dtd causes extreme discharge in me, I'm hoping my CM will have returned to normal when it comes time to check it.

So that's my new found journey in a nutshell.

I don't take hormonal birth control for the exact same reason. I have tried several times and every time I have taken bcp I have gotten horrible horrible migraines.

I have just started charting again. Welcome to the board!

Nope. I jumped fully into it with FF (which I've used before, but with little success cause I was doing it wrong). I didn't even know there were books, I've been learning via the little emails from FF that I get every morning.

Dang it to retype everything I just wrote lol.
Welcome Ashley! I'm Caylynne 21 and married to DH David who is going to be 24 in December. We have a 1 yr old named Megan and after having her is when I started using FAM. For me bcp wrecked my body. I was a hormonal mess for the 6 months that I was on them and it wasn't worth it for me to stay on them. DH always pulls out anyway when we DTD so it just made sense for us to look into FAM. This board has a lot of knowledgeable ladies who can answer any questions you might find yourself with. So welcome to the group!

I have just started charting again. Welcome to the board!

I did really well with Tri-cyclen Lo. Usually one migraine a month, the day before AF would show. The stable hormones actually benefited me. But doctors down here do the exact opposite, and limit what you can take, and what they wanted to put me on would actually increase my migraines to the point I'd probably go insane or OD on pain medication.

I'm worried about the migraines now, I have other medication I can take to keep them at bay, but when I run out I'd need to see a doctor and would run into the same problem, it's not used for what I use it for here. oi. lol.

Thankfully I live a pretty low stress life so I'm not getting random tension headaches!

Welcome! I'm Shawna and we use (and I teach IRL) the Billings Ovulation Method. I really like not having to deal with the long term risks or short term side effects of hormones. Keep us posted on how things are going with you.

I do want to mention that Taking Charge of Your Fertility (and every other method of NFP or FAM that I am aware of) do recommend taking the first 2 - 4 weeks without genital contact to really get to know your body without fluids related to intercourse to make it confusing. It does cut down on the confusion and increases effectiveness, because then you can be more confident about signs indicate fertility or infertility for you...since every woman is different! It also gives you a chance to really learn the guidelines for TTA before trying to put them into practice.

What the heck? I added a new response, but it just put the text into my first response in this thread. Doesn't say I edited or anything, cuz I didn't edit it!

I too have gone through the FF emails. FF is geared toward TTC. They do not do a good job in teaching TTA. There are a lot of stickies at the top of the main board here about the different types of FAM and NFP. I would suggest getting a book. I personally read through the Taking Charge of Your Fertility (TCOYF) book and learned from that. Just like FF charting software is geared more toward TTC so is the learning so I wouldn't trust it to be very reliable for TTA.

I'll grab the book soon as I can find a barnes and noble or borders that's open when I go out and has it. DH can't say much, still cheaper than a baby!

and I'll switch over to another charting site. I only used FF since it showed up as a possible download for my ipod. How ever it knew I didn't want to get pregnant, I will never know.

Amazon had the TCOYF book on sale for 15 yesterday, not sure if it's still on sale but worth checking out.

Thanks KAT, I noticed that last night (when I googled to see what tcoyf was). buying it online is super easy, it's the matter of convincing DH to let me use the money on his card for something local... he's untrusting of national banks, so he has a local bank... which means we can only deposit money while in Wisconsin. Makes me want to bang my head off a wall since we're not there most of the year.

alright, chart swapped over to tcoyf... much different interface, and the adjustment thing threw me for a loop. I just hope I didn't mess something up!

I cannot wait until I pass this stupid kidney stone so I can sleep more than 3hours with out going to the bathroom, will make this charting thing so much easier!
