Please tell me I'm not the only person who has problems checking their cervix!

I can tell you if it's high or low.. but my fingers aren't long enough to find the OS to see if it's open or closed. When I'm at my most fertile I can't even touch my cervix. Today will probably be the last day I'll be able to touch it for this cycle.

Is the OS as important as the actual position?

(I've been checking it, but not recording it because all i can get is the approx of where it is and how hard it is.)

I am reading my book, I swear! Heck I even lug it to the gym with me I just am not reading it as fast as my cycle is progressing!

It is really not important and most people find it muddies things up more than it helps! That said, are you in a deep squat when you check? Also, if you bear down while doing it, a lot of times you can get it to come down enough to feel the opening.

But it's just not that big a deal. CF is the most important thing to tell you O is coming, and temp to confirm it. Most people don't even check CP/CO. Don't stress!

thanks hun!

this book keep stressing that you have to check all three (temp, cf and cp) and so far from what I can feel of my cervix it's doing its normal thing (going high and soft)... even though my temp and cf doesn't seem to be cooperating.

But, I'm gonna blame the cf on coming off the pill. I'm NEVER this dry (even though I feel wet and icky.. there's nothing there)

I tried checking my cervix as well, but same issue and I just ended up more confused than anything. I am still trying to check CM and temping, but coming off the pill makes it really difficult. I've been really dry the past couple weeks as well. Weird. Do you mind if I ask, have you had a regular AF (aside from the first withdrawal period after going off the pill)?? I am on CD48 and still no AF in sight. Ugh....

I don't check mine. Cervical position is not necessary to keep an accurate fertility record. It's just extra information, so if it's stressing you out - skip it! Focus on really learning your cervical mucus sensation. Not all forms of charting recommend checking the cervix. We use Billings and that actually discourages checking the cervix as it compromises the accuracy of the external CM observations.

It's really normal to have scant or absent CM after discontinuing the Pill (also normal to have constant infertile discharge after the Pill too). It's because the hormones shrivel up or "age" the crypts in your cervix where the good quality CM is produced. Even after your body ovulates regularly again, it can take your cervix a longer time to heal and produce good CM again.

Sperm must have CM to survive though. Dryness (nothing felt, nothing seen) means infertility - so it's safe to use the pre-ovulation rules outlined in whatever form of FAM or NFP you are doing.

I've been on and off the pill for years, I expect AF by CD33, CD35 at the latest. I'd be freaking out if I didn't have AF by then since my longest cycle ever was 35 days. (One exception was after my surgery for my first loss... it took 8 weeks for AF to return).

I've always had normal CM (as described in the book) while on the pill (from dry, to sticky, to slippery, to ewcm to dry, like clockwork) So being this dry is just.. unsettling.

But what's odder is I don't feel dry, I feel wet and squishy (and I had him do some major poking around the last couple of days up there since we can't dtd due to a super painful kidney stone that's in my bladder.. and his eyes just bug out cause of how dry it is). Even right now, sitting here, I feel all slippery, but when I go pee here in a few minutes, there won't be anything.

Will be the first time while Observing cycles that I don't/Didn't O on CD 14. But I'm feeling some girlie bit achiness, and have had a few pains on my right side (which doesn't say much, since that ALWAYS the side that hurts.. starting to wonder if my left ovary works since every time I've had an ultrasound shows the follicles on the right, cycle after cycle)... I figure I'll wake up full of CM in the next day or two.. and will be wishing I could go to bed with a heat pack over it.

I looked at the Billings method, but I have a protein allergy to something in semen, so when we dtd my morning CM is quite interesting. My doctor said I have about 3x the post sex "goo" of a usual patient she sees (some partners have left me with chronic vaginal infections cause of it). I check my CM at about supper time, before DH gets home, 20+hours after dtd. But even lately, there's been no goo! But I can't see that allergy making the Billings method easy.

If you're feeling wet or slippery - that's the CM! If you're on medication for the kidney stone or anything else, that might also be reducing the amount of CM you can see...but you're obviously very aware of the CM that can be felt, because you notice feeling wet! The nerve endings at the vulva are so sensitive that you can feel CM as a wetness when there is only a microscopic amount, not enough to see with your eyes.

ahh, that'd explain it. what's there is probably just coming out in my underwear then, because I've noticed a few little wet spots (that aren't pee!!!!! lol) in the last few days. I haven't peed since getting up for the day yet so we'll see if I can find anything.

I've been putting my med use on my chart (after af was gone that is) and so far it's only been once... I hope that's not going to throw me off fully. I'm going to guess that it's the pill since I was on a triphasic pill so it would force me through the usual "cycle" of things as the weeks wore on.

eta: woot we have some lotiony cm!

I actually find cervix checking to be creepy. I have friends who like text me cuz they know I practice NFP to ask me about all their signs and they always add, but my cervix doesn't make sense it is showing the opposite of my other signs and my response is always "Don't know anything about cervix stuff, just trust the other stuff." (I don't think it is creepy that others do it, checking my own weirds me out )

LOL! I have no problems checking it, none at all. I'm probably one of the most comfortable with their body people I know.

lol I'm not going to obess over it though. CM and temp will have to suffice. I do know it's doing what it should right now, and I haven't checked it.. my cervix is super sensitive.. so if we dtd and it doesn't hurt, then I know it's where it should be!
