So have you noticed JMs new "like" feature? What do you think?

i just noticed it, it's OK, however the graphic is large. I am on a dog forum and it has this feature but it's smaller and less intrusive. however it also is annoying when people don't bother to post and just 'like' a post. discourages talking, going off on tangents and the fun stuff about forums.

I actually liked both your posts, I can see where that would be helpful on the debate forum, however, my feat is on my boards, that are smaller, less on this one than some of my others, it will discourage conversation. If you want to say something, but don't have much to say now you click like, before you forced yourself to express something to let them know you cared.

Its hard and tempting to just click "like" instead of writing a response haha. I have a love/hate relationship with the "like" button.

I dislike it. I also agree it discourages conversation. I also believe on something like this on a mommy board, with a bunch of women, it's going to be used passive aggressively and cause a lot of of butthurt.

For right now I think it is a good option, but we'll have to see the effect it really has on the forums. Other than FB and Pinterest I've never really used it before. I am interested to see if it does discourage conversation like some of you ladies think.

Exactly, but I'm a big poster on JM, so I'm hoping it won't effect me, but I know it'll effect my boards.

What's so obnoxious is that all everyone has been screaming for for a few years is a mobile version or an app. Participation would rebound quite a bit since part of the reason everyone goes to Facebook is that they can't browse on their phone. But do they do that? (The app could be an expensive undertaking, but the mobile version shouldn't.) Nope. They add a feature that could, potentially, slow down posting even more.

I was indifferent about it at first, but now it's just kind of annoying. Like has been said, the big ole icon is obnoxious, and I really don't care that Susie Q liked that I said something to so and so in some post... I could really do without the notifications.

I don't mind it. Generally if I don't have anything to say, I don't. I feel fake if I force myself to comment on someone's post just to comment, but I don't mind liking a post to let them know I saw it and am thinking about it, I guess. I'll be curious to see how it does affect posting. I know they are looking into upgrading the boards to the newest version and I'm pretty sure it'll be possible to put an app in place with that, so here's hoping it's soon!

I think part of what's gone wrong there is that JM got sold AGAIN and so they had to start with the new tech team from scratch again. Our admin have been working toward that though I know.

I didn't realize they were sold again. No more eHarmony?

No, eHarmony went away...6 months ago? Maybe a little more. And then we had some sort of technical malfunction just after they were sold that just got cleared up recently I believe (if it even has been) so, I think that's why the stalling on that.
