If you lived in a country (China/Inida/etc.) that had a max number of kids you could have, would it effect your decision to use NFP/FAM? (As in how much do you really trust YOURSELF at using the method.)

Well... probably not since we already plan on one of us being sterilized (me if we have 2 kids, him if we have one). I want to be able to have an afternoon nookie session during nap time with out worrying where I am in my cycle.

It wouldn't effect my decision to use it, but it would make it harder for me to justify ever taking a chance of course.

I trust NFP to be effective when used correctly... living in that type of situation, I would certainly make sure I used it correctly!

Like Ashely, I imagine that one of us at least would take more permanent measures to ensure we didn't have more children. We've talked about doing it in the future anyway, but who knows.

I think the only thing that would change is I would be extra conservative in when I considered myself fertile. No more thinking "well, it's just a sticky day, the chances would be very low if we DTD today". I will probably need a hysterectomy when I'm done having babies since my uterus causes so many issues, so I may have one sooner than anticipated, but I wouldn't go on the pill or hormones or IUD, anything like that.

Ironic that you brought up China, because the Billings Ovulation Method is approved by the Chinese government as being effective enough for their one child policy. Many of the effectiveness studies were conducted in China because of the high number of couples using the method there. The most recent trial included 3.6 million Chinese couples and the effectiveness rate was 99%. They also did a trial in China that compared BOM to IUD couples, the BOM group had fewer pregnancies than the IUD group.
So if I lived in a country like China, yes I'd still use NFP. LOL

I didn't know that, Shawna. That's really interesting!

I didn't know China had to approve what you did, I just knew you couldn't have extra babies (though I've read there are people breaking the rule now and just trusting nobody will stop them...)

They don't give approval for each couple, the government has recommendations about that methods of avoiding pregnancy are considered acceptable for their one child policy.
