Hello everyone! Just wanted to introduce myself since DH and I have decided to practice NFP! I'm Rachel, and just had my 2nd baby girl one month ago. I am trying to learn all that I can about charting and whatnot! It seems pretty easy to do, but my concern is how effective it is while breastfeeding- I keep hearing different things about it. So do/did any of you breastfeed while practicing this method? How did things change once you got your period back/when did you get it back?

for some back info: DH and I did not use birth control of any kind after we had our first daughter and just let things naturally run it's course. I was breastfeeding every 2 hours around the clock and I got my period back at 8 months, then conceived at 10 months. I would like more spacing with this baby and the next though, so that's why we want to try NFP.

Thanks, looking forward to hanging out over here!

I learned NFP after my 2nd was born, and I was breastfeeding as well. It is tricky lol, but definitely possible. I didn't quite learn properly and so #3 came along 17mos later.

This time around I got a good instructor and my "baby" is 15 months. It was hard and frustrating getting through the breastfeeding charting but I did it and now I have a pretty nice, regular chart.

Biggest piece of advice: PIck your method and get an instructor!!! It is SO important to have that personalized instruction and input. Billings Ovulation Method is wonderful for post partum learning. No temping, it would be hard to temp anyways w/ a newborns schedule. It is a sensation, mucus based method. I love it.
If you go to BOMA-USA you can read more about it, adn you can also request an instructor. I work with my instructor via email which I lOVE. You can do in person, over the phone, or email.

Thanks so much for sharing your experience! It really helps! I went to the BOMA website but there were not any instructors near me. I did send a message to the closest one- 2 hrs away- though. It's encouraging to hear that method is working so well for you!

I used the online teacher on WOOMB when I learned BOM. She was not as there for me as I would have liked at first, but after we got through the bumps I think she did a pretty good job. I wouldn't say WOOMBs online instruction is the best option because of the time between contact sometimes, but it is certainly better than no instructor at all. However, if Shawna visits soon, sometimes she's magic and finding instructors nearby when other people can't seem to, so we'll wait and see if she can find somebody. Where in Ohio are you?

I heard back from the instructor I emailed, but they said they do not offer remote training, so if anyone has any suggestions that would be great. I live in Springfield, which is between Columbus and Dayton.

We've also used the Billings Ovulation Method while breastfeeding. It helps you tell when your fertility is returning, even before AF comes back. There's no harm in learning from someone long distance (Skype, phone, email) - the most important part is just being in touch with them frequently while you learn. Let us know how it goes!

But the instructor she found didn't offer that she said. Have you tried just e-mailing BOM-USA in general and seeing if they can put you in touch with somebody. They put me in touch with somebody in California (I'm in Idaho) I eventually worked it out with my WOOMB instructor instead though. And again, while I don't think this is the 100% best route, WOOMB does just do it online right through the site, so check out their site. I always just Google WOOMB and then go to the online instruction when I go to the site.

Woomb is actually not the official BOM site anymore, due to hacking trouble. The online charting program it links to is called Billingsmentor. This is NOT reccomended for learning BOM!

Best bet is to ask for a long distance instructor from BOMA-USA. The new official international website is Billings LIFE: Official Site of The Billings Ovulation Method

Shawna, I went to the Billings LIFE website and tried to email them but for some reason their contact us page is not working properly. I keep getting a 401 error every time I try to submit my message. I could not find an email address on the site- do you know of any other way I can contact them?

And just so I have this right- the BOMA-USA site and the Woomb site are no longer reliable? And the billingsmentor is a site used by people who already know the method, correct?

I also tried registering with billingmentor and kept getting a Service Unavailable error.

Nope! I think we've confused you!

woomb dot org = OBSOLETE, NOT RECCOMENDED
billingsmentor = NOT RECCOMENDED

BOMA-USA dot org = Official US site, very good for locating an instructor!
thebillingsovulationmethod dot org = Official International site
nfpcharting dot come = online charting site for those who already understand the method
woomb dot ca = Official Canadian site

I ignore that part of the WOOMB site, the only part I use is the part that connects you to a person, not an online charting program. My chart is online, but not through that.
