OK, so I've potty trained twice before, but I'm having a hard time with my child I'm currently potty training. So for anybody who's done it, how'd you start? How did you get them to go in the potty the first time?

I'm currently potty training my oldest, but we started her by watching for a cue that she was going (or just keep trying until she does, keeping her happy and entertained), and set her on the potty right before she did. Then we made a huge deal about how awesome it was. Now she thinks it's the most awesome thing. She's not potty trained yet, but I'm being very laid back about it, so I wasn't expecting fast results or anything.

a friend of mine bought non toxic dye balls that she would put in the potty. First she had an older child pee to show the little one that peeing in the potty made colors. Worked like a charm. She just kept adding the little balls to the bottom after every washing and drying.

My son had very little interest for the longest time. He knew what youre supposed to do, how it works, just didnt care to do it. So I tried to create the habit instead of the interest, starting with before bath time and in the morning before getting dressed. Once he got that routine, I used the kitchen timer and set it to go off each hour-potty time. I did that for a day and a half and then forgot the timer. Thats how we got it going

Yeah, LJ doesn't give us a cue, Amber, my youngest (atm) does.

Hmmm, maybe I'll have to find a way to get Rock in on the action.

Yeah I looked up tips online and am going to be trying a timer type thing in hopes that'll catch it. I've been very much letting us go on his schedule, just asking "Do you need to go potty?" a lot and going there if he says yes, but since it isn't working, I'm going to try a timer.

I did that too. I felt like I was always asking him if he had to go potty, like every 20-30 minutes. He was just too busy to care or admit even if I knew he had to go. The timer worked well since it was like a 3rd party rather than me asking. He was much more interested.

I tried the timer for the first time today, I won't say it got me anywhere though. The only thing I've been able to figure out is if he is at the table eating, he pees...how do I work with that though? I can't have him eat at the potty can I? Ugh...
