Your fertility signs are the most accurate way to tell if you're potentially fertile or infertile on any given day. Every cycle is unique and the time of ovulation can move from cycle to cycle, especially as your hormones adjust after a miscarriage or ectopic pregnancy. The watery CM is a sign that you're potentially fertile right now, since CM enables sperm to survive in your body up to 5 days waiting for ovulation. Ovulation tests don't give you that much advance warning, they will just turn positive a day or two before ovulation - usually several days
after the CM has already started.

Well...that is a highly effective option. It's basically how NFP works and this is the board where you'll find people who actually avoid DTD when fertile signs are present (plus 3 days after) when it's important to avoid pregnancy.
For those that prefer a Fertility Awareness Method, barriers are used on days with fertile signs. But then you're still gambling with the failure rate of the barrier of choice and whatever reactions or discomforts you might have with those.
So....probably a good idea to really discuss this and decide how much of a chance you're willing to take right now. You know, come up with a game plan for the next few cycles if you both agree that it's important to avoid conception!
