How did you make a choice?

Well....I wanted something without health risks, so all hormones were out. I didn't want anything that could stop life after conception, so the IUD was out. Then I wanted something highly effective, so barriers, spermicide, withdrawal were out. Failure rates too high. That left all the different kinds of Natural Family Planning, the only thing that's both effective and has no risks at the same time. We tried 3 different kinds of NFP and found that the Billings Ovulation Method works best for us.

I was unable to get my bcp of choice in the USA with out dropping hundreds to see an Ob, and then thousands on a cat scan. So we turned to FAM using spermicide, then pull and pray... and then just said the heck with it and moved our ttc date up 10m (13m later, still no baby)

I first went on the pill without really thinking, just because that's what "everybody" did. When I actually started researching effectiveness and side-effects of hormonal contraception, and when I started praying to understand why our Church teaches against it (we are Catholic) the decision to use NFP was very easy to make.

I also went on bcp blindly and after discovering what it really does and how it works I immediately went off it. We don't want to use anything that would interfere with the natural act either so NFP it is.

There was never much choice for me. I always thought birth control didn't seem like a good idea. Which left the various choices of NFP...I think the reason I'm doing BOM is mainly cuz of this board and not liking what else I had tried.
