Care to take a guess - is the following statement fact or fiction? It is possible to ovulate more than once a cycle. Will post the answer on Monday!

The answer is, Fact! It is possible to ovulate more than once per cycle. However, it is rare and when it does happen the second ova is released within 24 hours of the first one. That is why couples wishing to avoid pregnancy abstain for 3 days after the fertile mucus disappears or for 3 full days of higher temperatures. This is because once the first ova is released, it can live up to 24 hours. (Day 1 of dryness or high temperatures = conception is still possible). Then a second ova might be released within 24 hours of that time. (Day 2 of dryness or high temperatures = conception is still possible). Then the second ova can live up to 24 hours. (Day 3 of dryness or high temperatures= conception is still possible). By the fourth day past Peak, or the fourth day of high temperatures - there are no living eggs and conception is not possible. A second ovulation will not be detectable by mucus or temperatures. So now you know the reason the 3 day abstinence rule exists after ovulation or Peak is confirmed.

Many women have the misconception that you can ovulate, and then days or weeks later you can ovulate again. THIS IS NOT TRUE. When a multiple ovulation occurs (more than one egg) it will occur all at the same time or within 24 hours of the first ovulation.
