Avoiding intercourse on the day of ovulation will prevent conception. Fact or ficiton? Will post the answer on Thursday.

Answer: You girls are on the ball! Avoiding intercourse only on the day of ovulation will not prevent conception. Days prior to ovulation when cervical mucus is present are fertile because CM can keep sperm alive up to 5 days. The 3 days following the mucus Peak or 3 days of high temperatures during a thermal shift are also fertile! These 3 days of fertility account for the 24 hour life span of the ova and the possibility of a second ovulation which would occur within 24 hours of the first one. The second ova could also have a lifespan of 24 hours.

So conception can result from intercourse approximately 5 days prior to ovulation, and as a result of intercourse within the 3 days afterwards.

Well, it depends on whether you've dtd'ed a few days before or not. If you haven't been dtd'ing, then it's like abstinence and so you won't. But as far as I know, sperm lives up to 5 days and the egg up to 24hours, and so dtd'ing a few days before ovulation, but then not on the actual day, can still cause a pregnancy.

ETA: so my guess is Fiction.
