I'm breastfeeding and haven't gotten my period back, but I know it's possible to become pregnant right now anyway. We aren't supplimenting formula, but I do pump and bottle feed occasionally.

Where are good resources for learning NFP to use while breastfeeding? I'm confident in temperature tracking, as I did that before getting pregnant, but that doesn't help me now. Does watching saliva ferning work while breastfeeding? Or do I have to go only off of CM?

TIA!

Unfortunately, the saliva ferning monitors are not reliable enough to avoid pregnancy. Cervical mucus is your most accurate marker while breastfeeding. NFP while breastfeeding is quite simple (a few Moms here learned while breastfeeding just recently, hopefully they will pop in and share their experiences) - I do highly reccomend proper training to be able to interpret your mucus patterns correctly. If you have a second, read through the Resource and FAQ Stickies! Each of the NFP methods listed has guidelines for how to use NFP during breastfeeding, it's just a matter of deciding which method would suit you best! Best wishes and welcome!

Some good books include
The Billings Ovulation Method by Dr. Lyn Billings and Ann Westmore, Taking Charge of Your Fertility by Toni Weschler

It was so much easier to breastfeed and use nfp last time when I got my period back right away...I had some complications (surgery) last time and my period came back even though I was breastfeeding, so my body was more normal...this time, not normal...so lost!!!

Until my period comes back I always use cervical mucous observation. I've predicted the date my period would return all three times (at 9 months, 19 months, and 13 months). Temps do still work while breastfeeding, but CM is going to be a better predictor for you. I highly recommend Taking Charge of Your Fertility by Toni Weschler. She has a chapter devoted to NFP while breastfeeding.
