DH is terrible w/ cash. While I can do either with equal amount of control. DH also isn't the best with the debit card either. We have two checking accounts. One we used when I babysat and we wanted the money in a seperate account. we haven't used the account in awhile but its a free checking and doesn't get charged a monthly fee so we haven't canceled it. DH and I vaguely discussed keeping our main account and use that soley for "bills" such as mortgage, utilities, child care, car payment, CC's. And the secondary account for stuff like food, clothing, gas, and other stuff that isn't "bills." And that secondary account can be used in place of actual envelopes with cash.
We're not really sure if this would work - but are really curious to know if other's have tried it before and how it worked.

I would advise you to play around with different methods to find out what works. In the months leading up to our wedding, DH and I had a plan to get out of debt and we paid certain bills from his checking account and certain bills from my checking account. It worked well for us. We never tried the envelope system because we are both the kind of people who will burn through cash like it's nothing, but if we don't physically have cash in our possession, we don't spend frivolously at all.
