Sadly up until now I mostly start the last couple months of the year and hope I have enough or use the CC to make sure Christmas is great for my kids . This year I am determined to do it different.
My plan is to set aside a little each month. I just have to set an amount for each kid and hubby then put that into my budget.
I'm glad I'm not the only one thinking about Christmas already. I start my Christmas shopping around June or July and raid the clearance toy aisles for things for the kids and then store it somewhere where they won't find it, luckily they're still young so they don't know to start snooping around for it yet. LOL
I always have a few bigger items that they kids really want or things for my BF or other relatives. that I budget for throughout the year. I don't usually have a "Christmas budget" specificially but it comes out of my "fun" spending money because to me Christmas shopping is fun as long as I don't wait til last minute.
Also, when it comes to buying for some of my relatives, we make Christmas baskets with baked goods and other little treats like Christmas candy that I can find on sale or something. It cost a lot less than gifts cards or something along those lines and it's something that we like to do as a family.
